BUHLEN UM DIE GUNST DES ZUSCHAUERS
1991 - Installation für 2 Monitore
Zwei Monitore stehen sich im Abstand von ca. 8 Metern auf schwarzen 1,20 m hohen Sockeln gegenüber. Die VHS-Abspielgeräte sind in den offenen Rückseiten der Holzpodeste verborgen.
Die Distanz der Bildschirme voneinander und die mangelnde Breite des Raumes macht es dem Ausstellungsbesucher unmöglich beide Monitore gleichzeitig zu betrachten. Sein Blick muss hin- und herwandern.
Auf jedem Monitor kämpft eine attraktive Dame um die Gunst des Zuschauers. Die eine ist blond (Susanne Seuffert), die andere dunkelhaarig (Evelyn Plank). Sie ziehen alle Register der Fernsehunterhaltung: Erotik, Comic, Crime. Sie agieren in Konkurrenz zueinander. Man muss sich zwischen zwei (Fernseh-) Programmen entscheiden, aber wird es kaum können.
Das Duell beginnt mit koketten, viel versprechenden Blicken, Schmollmund und erotischem Gesäusel. Dann wird mit härteren Bandagen gekämpft und der Voyeur kommt auf seine Kosten: eine geöffnete Bluse hier, ein entblößtes Hinterteil dort - bis beide zur Waffe greifen. Das Gegenüber wird ins Visier genommen, wobei man nicht weiß, ob die Videokonkurrentin oder der Zuschauer selbst angepeilt wird. Zwei Schüsse fallen. Schwarz. Das Spiel beginnt von vorn.
Die einzelne Sequenz dauert jeweils 3'40 Minuten und wiederholt sich x-mal. Damit die Schüsse der beiden Damen stets im selben Moment losgehen, müssen beide Videoplayer gleichzeitig gestartet werden und möglichst synchron laufen.
Diese Installation war zu sehen im "KunstBetrieb Dachau", Dachau bei München (zusammen mit meiner Videoinstallation "Die Nabelschau"), eine Ausstellung mit Barbara Hammann, 7. März - 8.April '91 und in der Künstlerwerkstatt Lothringerstraße, München (zusammen mit meiner Installation "Ping Pong"), 14. September - 13. Oktober '91
WOOING THE VIEWER
1991 - video installation for 2 monitors
Two monitors stand across from each other on black 12 m high pedestals at a distance of approx. 8 m apart. The VHS players are hidden in the open backs of the wooden pedestals.
The distance between the screens and the narrow width of the space makes it impossible for the exhibition's visitor to watch both monitors at the same time. His gaze must wander back and forth.
An attractive lady on each monitor fights for the favor of the spectator. One is blond (Susanne Seuffert), the other brunette (Evelyn Plank). They use everything television entertainment has to offer: erotica, comedy, crime. They compete with each other. One must decide between two (television) programs, but is hardly able to do so.
The duel begins with coquette, promising glances, smoldering mouths and erotic purring. Then it is fought no holds barred and the voyeur gets his money's worth: here an opened blouse, there a bared bottom - until both take their weapons. The opponent is taken in site, although one does not know if the video contestants or the spectator are being aimed at. Two shots fall. Black. The game starts from the beginning.
The individual sequences each last 3'40 minutes and are repeated infinitely. In order for the two ladies shots to be fired at once, both video recorders must be started at the same time and run in sync.
